There is no doubt about it, I am a night owl! I worked on the blog and channel – tweaking and answering questions until about 4 a.m. Luckily, I checked through all the comments and found two that I had clearly not seen. I answered those questions – hoping they would forgive my late reply – and then thought I would try and put a front and back page on the first week’s video. It must have worked because 131 people have viewed it and I don’t see any negative comments.

It was go out and do things day, again. This time the shopping for groceries. I love going grocery shopping now that I have changed the focus of the trip. I used to absolutely hate it. Now I use it as an opportunity to do good. I tried to help one lady in the bulk food section but didn’t get a smile that I could count. Then I started to line up (queue – for the Brits reading this!) and saw that someone I knew was at the till next to me. You know I changed lanes, even though it would take longer – bound to get a smile, you see. Sure enough I got a huge one and it was someone who I had helped a few years ago and she was so supportive of what I am doing here. That made me smile. Then, as we were packing groceries, I saw an older man, probably in the 80’s, really fighting to get his basket out of his walker on wheels. I went forward and removed it for him and got… a big smile and a very sincere “Thank you, Miss”. Miss? Me, the old fart being called Miss? That made me smile, too. Then, the cashier gave me a big hug as I left and that really messed with the minds of the other shoppers but made my day!

You hear me say that a smile helps make friends. I was putting my cart (trolley, for the Brits!) back and, just as I was about the do the return the coin trick, I saw a lady close to me struggling to find her money. “Hey, have this one” I said. She smiled and tried to hand me 25cts. “No…” I said, “…take it as a gift!“. Confusion turned to a big smile and then I said “…make someone’s day… pay it forward”. Huge smile. Followed by “Yes, and if there is no one here, when I come to return it, I will just leave quietly for the next person!” I could hear the excitement in her voice at the idea of such a simple act of kindness. “There you go, ” I said “… you will make someone’s day brighter”.

Need to go now as I am preparing dinner for my “downstairs” family! My sliced potatoes, red onions and yellow/green/yellow bell peppers (with a little butter, salt and pepper), wrapped in foil and cooked on the BBQ looked magnificent, in terms of colours. Apparently, they didn’t taste too bad either 🙂

Achievements: Made lots of  people smile just by being me, learned how to put a page onto a video, cooked dinner for the downstairs family and did the wash.

It works for me – Trick for the BBQ: Put the meat thermometer into the biggest steak when it is up to rare you know the thinner ones are at med-rare, when it is at med-rare you know even the pickiest person will be happy with the smaller ones 🙂
