23. Life’s Big Roller-Coaster

It is Friday evening, and as I sit here typing this blog I cannot help but think about what an incredible roller-coaster ride this week has been. For those of you who have been following the blog, you know that Monday night was confusion – why could’t I sleep? Try as I might, all night, I just couldn’t sleep until about 4:00am. Every time I was about to sleep, I suddenly was fully awake and stressed. I could not work out why.

I went to work on Tuesday but felt strange – very strange. Thought I must be sick. Went home and went straight to bed. Woke up, a short time later, to a telephone call telling me a friend had died… on Monday night. Suddenly, I knew why I couldn’t sleep and why I was feeling so stressed and such sadness.

My joy this week came from the fact that my laptop had been saved from it’s nasty virus that had attached itself to the operating system. That was wonderful news. I had been struggling all week to learn the ins and outs of the newly acquired tablet. As the week progressed I found out it wasn’t nearly as stupid as I thought it was! It just didn’t tell me how clever it was the way a computer does. One has to “find out” where all the little things are hidden. Of course, the fact that they did not have a manual in the packaging drove me mad. Yes, they had one in the tablet but difficult to read it and to test them out at the same time. Oh, and then there was the issue with the new WiFi Router which said I had to “…insert the Disk into a computer” to set it up. Duuh, the whole reason I had the tablet was because the laptop was sick. I got creative and played the pathetic old(er) person game with my internet provider and they helped me sort it all out. I took the time this week, and it was the reason for no blog yesterday, to write another PowerPoint presentation and include narration! That meant that I also learned how to synch slides and voice – though I am not sure I am doing it the “right” way I did manage to get it done.

Then, joy upon joy, I found Brainshark which allowed me to upload the PowerPoint and turn it into a video, for free (we LIKE that!). I am glad I took that major step of learning/risk and now I am sitting here watching it upload onto YouTube. I guess it must have done it’s thing because I just got a comment on it!! I have to go and finish a baby blanket that is due to be delivered on Sunday so I am going to make it an early evening in terms of the YouTube and blog. Once the blanket is finished I can get back to “playing”.
