25. Yippee! We hit over 13,300 in 6 weeks! Thanks, everyone :)

It has been quite the week and I am shocked that I am so far behind on the blog. I know that my life was a little tilted due to the loss of my friend a few weeks ago and I think that it effected my discipline of writing regularly. I will forgive myself for that.

As you can see, we are steadily increasing our number of views and I have had some really interesting questions this week. It made me smile when someone basically asked me to give them permission to have sex with their boyfriend (!) and when someone asked for medical input. There are days when I read a question and sit here stunned, for a few moments, and wonder how on earth I am meant to answer that. As in all things in my life, I find that resisting the temptation to give timely answers and give myself time to mull over the question, is the better route to take. I always find driving helps me. I think over the questions as I drive and find the balance (e.g. I may not give permission but I may give options or I may not give medical recommendations but I may give experience from my own life or the experience of my friends). As I said, it is a balancing game!

It was a long weekend here in Canada and I believe it was also one in the USA. I fight with myself between doing something restful or doing something productive. On long weekends I try to balance both. I take one day and just “veg out”. I take another day and try and do something that I have been meaning to do – or at least make some serious effort to work on it. This weekend was tidy up day.

In the area where I live, we have just started a new system of recycling, composting and garbage. I know some of you in the States have been doing this for decades. We just got our fancy new bins and are adjusting to the changes. The reason I mention it at all is because cleaning up a “dumping ground” in my home used to be easier. (a) Keep it or (b) chuck it! With the new system I had to sit with three different boxes in front of me: garbage, recycle and organics. It was quite the process and I was truly surprised at how little ended up in the garbage box. You might wonder what I put into the organics box! It is amazing how many bits of old paper towel, unused Kleenex, dust bunnies and little collections of dog hair I found – all destined to be organic now.

I had great fun with the chocolate covered marshmallows I made over the weekend. Taste testing is such an important part of cooking, isn’t it?! For those of you who didn’t see the video check it out : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ZiRhN_gCGc
